Changes To Post-Decree Visitation Agreements

The needs of children change as they get older. The needs of a 2-year-old are dramatically different than those of a teenager. The need for child care is gradually replaced with the child’s participation in more and more extracurricular activities. Every year or two after child custody arrangements are established, it will likely be necessary to revisit them and make changes. At Mowery Youell & Galeano, Ltd., our attorneys take pride in guiding parents toward parenting plans and visitation arrangements that allow their relationships with their children to grow and flourish, regardless of the child’s age.

The Needs Of The Child

While every case is different and needs to be reviewed individually by a Columbus child visitation schedule lawyer, there have been many social and psychological studies that provide a general indication of what is best for children based on their age.

Younger children may be better served by not being away from either parent for long. More transitions during the weekly schedule may be appropriate. On the other hand, older children who are developing their own social lives may benefit from fewer transitions. Our goal is to change the current parenting plan to something age appropriate and situation appropriate.

Modifications Spurred By Changes To A Parent’s Situation

Modifications of visitation arrangements are not always dictated by the needs of the child, although they must always be in the child’s best interest. Sometimes, changes to a parent’s schedule or a parent moving away will require visitation modifications. With more than 30 years of experience, we are prepared to help in all situations.
