Property division a challenge in some Ohio divorce cases

A highly contentious divorce between two unemployed doctors may be of interest to readers in Ohio. The divorce case goes to trial in the coming days and involves the division of assets, spousal support, child custody and child support. These issues may be familiar to those who have ended their marriages in our state.

The couple in this case has three young children. Each parent is fighting to obtain child custody as a part of the divorce. There have been accusations of substance abuse and domestic violence throughout this contentious matter. In fact, the husband was recently acquitted in a criminal trial relating to the domestic violence claims.

In addition to the child-related issues, the couple in this high asset divorce must determine how to divide the real estate and other assets that they obtained while married. A report indicates that the pair own at least two homes and have large sums of cash. In an earlier ruling, the husband was ordered to pay the mortgage on the family home, medical insurance and child support.

As is the case with high asset divorces in Ohio, the couple in this matter must determine what assets are available to be distributed. This may include an accounting of all assets, including some which may have been disposed of during the divorce process. In such contentious cases, it may do well for an individual to obtain all available information as to the value of assets as they seek to divide the property gained while they were married to their soon-to-be ex-spouse.
