The perils of social media during divorce proceedings

The end of a marriage can be hard, but social media may be making the process even more difficult for some Ohio residents. Along with the fact that social media activity may result in emotional pain, people may discover the hard way that what is posted on the Internet may be used against them during a divorce. As a result, it may be a good idea to step away from social media during a split.

When someone going through a divorce spends a lot of time on social media, they may end up getting into arguments with their spouse or in laws, and these spats may be public. These actions are frequently regretted later, but many people are tempted to engage, especially if someone is making inflammatory or hurtful comments.

It's also important to note that things posted on social media may end up being used as evidence in court. Someone who goes on vacation or posts pictures of expensive purchases may end up hurting their case for needing alimony or child support. Additionally, if someone is seeking custody of children, going to parties or being shown drinking may be used to paint them as a poor parent in court, even if this is not the case.

The divorce process can be emotional, and some people just feel like lashing out at the time. They should refrain from doing so, as even deleted Facebook posts can sometimes be retrieved. A person who is going through one may want to turn negotiations over to a family law attorney who can be more rational when dealing with the various legal issues that are involved.
