Property division may be eased by creating a trust

Divorce is never an event that someone wants to think about during the excitement of an engagement. However, careful consideration should be given when one or both of the engaged persons have separate assets that may complicate property division if the marriage were to dissolve. Ohio residents expecting to tie the knot may enjoy the security of knowing that their personal or business assets could be protected from future difficulties tied to divorce.

Poor Ohio fathers struggle to pay child support

Poor fathers in Ohio, like those earning less than $6,000 per year, know that it can be difficult to pay all the bills each month. For some, the choice comes down to paying for basic needs such as rent and food or making court-ordered child support payments. The concern for some is that if child support payments are not made, jail time could be ordered for the non-paying father.

'Bend it Like Beckham' star named in divorce lawsuit

Readers in Ohio may be interested to read about movie and television star Parminder Nagra, who is facing a lawsuit from her soon-to-be ex-husband. The star filed for divorce in February. The lawsuit claims that the pair lived together for almost six years prior to their marriage and that they orally agreed to share all of their wealth equally.

Ohio Specialty courts help parents with child support payments

A parent failing to pay child support as part of a divorce settlement is, unfortunately, an ongoing problem in all parts of the U.S. To help ease this problem, one Ohio city has come up with an innovative way to deal with the issue of non-payment of child support. This city has created a specialty court, which is designed to work with parents who have failed to pay support and help them find ways to fulfill the obligations of their divorce settlements. Now, this specialty court program is being replicated in at least one town outside of Ohio as well.

QDROs often useful when dividing divorce retirement benefits

Divorce after the age of 50 is becoming increasingly common, and it can be especially complicated to divide up retirement benefits at that stage of life. The entire process comes with various tax considerations and can be mishandled all too easily. For Ohio men and women who have spent much of their lives as homemakers, however, retirement benefits can be complicated to divide but crucial to get right. After all, they deserve to be taken care of in their retirement years the same as the spouse who worked outside of the home.
